Oven Baked BBQ Chicken
How to make Oven Baked BBQ Chicken Recipe - There is something quite satisfying about making homemade BBQ sauce. I’ve developed a very simple recipe that is made with everyday ingredients you probably have on hand. Fryer chicken is smothered in my fingerlicking sauce, then baked in the oven. The family is in for a treat with this meal. Enjoy with my 3-Cheese and Bacon au Gratin Potatoes and a simple salad.
Ingredients:
6 tablespoons packed light brown sugar, divided
1 1⁄4 teaspoons kosher salt, divided
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper, divided
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 3-pound chicken, cut into 2 wings, 2 breasts, 2 drumsticks, and 2 thighs
1 1⁄2 cups ketchup
1⁄4 cup Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons yellow mustard
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 1⁄2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone liner.
2. Add 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of the salt, 1 teaspoon of the pepper, the paprika, and the garlic powder to a small bowl and stir to combine. Rub the dry mix on all sides of the chicken pieces.
3. Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, vinegar, lemon juice, and the remaining 4 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1⁄4 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon pepper to a medium saucepan over medium-low heat and stir to combine. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes.
4. Heat the oil in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium heat. In batches, add the chicken to the pot and brown for about 3 minutes per side. Transfer the browned chicken pieces to the prepared baking sheet. Add 1⁄2 cup of the warm BBQ sauce to a small bowl and brush over both sides of the partially cooked chicken. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through. Remove the chicken from the oven, brush with warm BBQ sauce and use any remaining sauce for dipping.
