Serves 6-8
Ingredients
½ c. orange juice
¼ c. margarine or butter
4 Tbsp. sugar
2 packages dry yeast
3-4 c. flour
2 eggs, beaten
Dash of salt
Oil for frying
Powdered sugar
Method:
Combine juice, margarine, and sugar. Heat or microwave to melt margarine. Cool to lukewarm.
Add yeast, 3 c. flour and beaten eggs. Knead until smooth, adding more flour if necessary. Cover with damp dishtowel and let rise for 30 minutes.
Punch down, divide into portions the size of a golf ball. Shape into balls, rings, or braids. Let rise another 30 minutes.
Heat 1 c. oil in frying pan. Fry donuts, turning to brown on all sides. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towel.
Put powdered sugar in paper bag, add donuts, and shake to cover.
