How to make american waldorf salad recipe - Created at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, this salad has been a favorite for over 100 years.


PREP TIME 15 mins

2 large apples
4 celery stalks, thinly sliced
25 red seedless grapes, halved
2 tbsp toasted and crushed walnuts
1⁄4 cup mayonnaise
juice of 1 lemon
salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 hearts of romaine lettuce

1 Remove the cores of the apples by using a corer. Then, using a sharp knife, cut the apples into slices of an even thickness. Stack the slices, a few at a time, and cut lengthwise through the pile and then crosswise, making equal-sized cubes.

2 Put the apples, celery, grapes, and walnuts in a bowl. Add the mayonnaise and lemon juice and toss well to combine. Season to taste.

3 Roughly chop the lettuce and divide between

4 plates. Serve the fruit and nut mixture on each bed of lettuce with a squeeze of lemon.
